Nature-based intelligence
My Nature-Based Intelligence (NBI) approach treats nature as a source of knowledge and learning. It brings nature-based solutions, ecological planning and AI-supported decision support into a shared field of inquiry.
NBI focuses on considering knowledge from natural processes alongside spatial data. Water cycles, land cover, ecological connections and exposure to hazards are considered together to understand a place’s capacities and limits. Geographic information systems and artificial intelligence help interpret these relationships and compare planning options.
In this approach, technology makes ecological knowledge easier to understand and use. The aim is to connect nature-based solutions with resilience and sustainability objectives at different scales, from green infrastructure to site selection.
My columns explore the emergence of nature-based intelligence, the interpretation of urban risk and the possibilities of learning from nature.

NCA
My Nature Cities Alliances (NCA) approach centres on collaboration that strengthens the relationship between cities and nature. Centred on nature, cities and collaboration, it forms part of my work on nature-based solutions and resilient settlements.
NCA develops the idea of a sustainability-oriented network for learning and governance between cities. It centres on sharing urban experience, connecting university research with local government practice, and addressing shared problems collaboratively.
While NBI focuses on bringing knowledge learned from nature into decision-making, NCA emphasises collaborations that can share this knowledge and adapt it to local conditions. I treat the two approaches as complementary fields through ecological planning, education and my international project networks.
I share my thinking in this field through projects, columns and educational work. The Anadolu Planning School is another conceptual framework developed in my work.
